The Hideway Hotel in Windermere is always perfect
http://www.thehideawayatwindermere.co.uk/
Check out room 12 - hopefully will stay in that room one day. Have stayed in room 2 with a lovely roll top bath and room 7 up on the top floor with views out to the Langdales.
Richard & Lisa the owners go out of their way to make your stay special. The tea and cakes on the afternoon are an added bonus.
Where to eat:
When visiting the Windermere area we always visit Jacksons bistro down in Bowness check out their reviews on trip advisor. We have also found a lovely Italian down in Bowness called Villa Positano on Ash Street
Last time we were down in Bowness we stumbled across this lovely pub behind the church http://www.newhallinnbownessonwindermere.robinsonsbrewery.com/ we will be going back for a drink next time we are in Bowness.
When staying in either Windermere or Ambleside we always enjoy the boat on the lake
between the 2 villages. You can't beat the jam doughnuts @ the Apple Pie cafe in Ambleside http://www.roomsattheapplepie.co.uk/ and they also have rooms there too which are on my list to stay sometime.
Another place on my "to stay list" Langdale Chase http://www.langdalechase.co.uk/
There is no better place than the Lake District if you get the weather.
