Due to the Covid 19 pandemic we decided to travel just in the UK in 2021
We headed off in the last week of June to Loch Awe for 7 nights with a night in Glasgow on route.
It was my first time using airbnb this year and I have been really impressed.
Would highly recommend Colin's superb ensuite room in the heart of Glasgow with free parking
Superb Ensuite room in Victorian Townhouse
The room was spotless an Colin was the perfect host. We had the whole of the ground floor to ourselves including a beautiful spacious kitchen were we were able to have breakfast. There was a Tesco Express just around the corner to grab some supplies.
Once we had checked in we headed out for a few drinks on the afternoon. Turn right out of the accommodation and within 10 mins you are in Glasgow centre.
First stop was this funky cocktail bar https://www.tikibarglasgow.com/
Great food and service in the sunshine.
Then we headed down to the Wetherspoons pub which is an old banking hall called the Counting House.
The Counting House - Glasgow
The building inside is amazing
We enjoyed a couple of drinks before heading back to the airbnd to get ready for our evening meal
After a little relaxation we headed out for our evening meal.
10 mins out the accommodation the other way is the CBD with all the bars and restaurants
When in Scotland it would be rude not to dabble in a bit of whisky so we stopped for a night cap on the way back in
Ben Nevis Bar
They had a few whiskies to choose from
This was one of the favourites
There are plenty of places on Argyle Street for eating and drinking. - and whilst on holiday one likes a few tipples on the way back to the accommodation.
The sunset was lovely out of the window of the bar
The beer was good too
After a great nights sleep we headed on up towards Loch Awe and our home for the next week.
We had a lovely drive up past Loch Lomond and on up the scenic "Rest and be Thankful road"
The highest point on the A83 is 803 ft above sea level and divides Glen Kinglas from Glen Croe.
From the viewpoint of this famous beauty spot you can see the old valley road, engineered by General Wade during the subjection of Scotland following the Jacobite rebellion.
A stone was erected to commemorate the completion of this military road in 1750.
There was an amazing caravan serving the best carved ham sandwiches ever and home baking which we enjoyed with a cup of tea whilst we admired the view.
The drive to Loch Awe was so picturesque passing many lochs and forests with amazing views. We drove through Inveraray (more on this later) and onto our cottage on the banks of Loch Awe, another airbnb find Loch Awe cabin
Talk about location, location, location this was the view form the front door
We enjoyed fishing on the loch and wine round the fire with beautiful sunsets - we had 20 degrees plus and clear blue skies for our whole stay in Scotland we were very lucky.
We couldn't wait to check out the loch when we arrived and the sky on the 1st night was amazing.
Total heaven, we had the place to ourselves
& a spot of fishing
No words....
Ever changing skies and just so peaceful
We had a few days out while we were staying on Loch Awe and a few lazy days in the sun - just what holidays are made for,We drove to Oban one day and the weather was amazing - felt like we were abroad
We joined a whisky tasting at the Oban distillery
Then we headed back to the cottage for some r & r
The next day was another scorcher and we just stayed local and had a wander near the cabin
Loch Awe is not touristy at all which is what we loved
Can't beat finding a waterfall
#dirtydancing
We wandered back along the loch to the cabin beautiful views
Single track road back to the cabin
Home sweet home
Gin o' clock
Rounded the day off with a gorgeous sunset on the beach
A perfect ending to a relaxing day in the sunshine
We had a run to Campbell town too and the drive was amazing, scenery was out of this world
This is the view over Loch Fyne from Inveraray
Plenty of photo opportunities on route
We stopped for a coffee in Tarbert on the way
We came home on an alternative road the B842 right on the waters edge and the beaches were amazing - we could see the Isle of Arran across the water
Stunning day out
We had some lovely walks too from Inveraray and round the castle and woods
Great food and service
My husband has recently got into whisky and would highly recommend Fyne Malts of Inveraray in the village - personal service and lots of amazing whiskies and gin.
With a surname of FOX could not resist this bottle of gin
SCOTLAND was awesome and we were so lucky with the weather can't wait for our 2022 trip
