We booked with Crystal Ski and stayed at Hotel Romantik in Zell am See in the heart of the town
https://www.romantik-hotel.at/index-en.html
We upgraded our room to one of the Pinzgauer suites with it's own sauna on the balcony
The room was stunning and very spacious and the sauna was a lovely luxury
We had a big bedroom area as well as a large lounge area with a huge bath.
We were half board and the food and service was 1st class
The weather for the first four days was really poor with only some of the mountain open but my husband was suffering with a bad back anyway so we opted for some time in the spa.
The next day we decided to head to Salzburg on the train for a day out. Skiing was limited still due to the adverse weather conditions so we didn't feel like we were missing out on too much.
The train was only 35 euro return and they ran like clockwork. It was a 90 min very scenic journey.
It was a bit blustery when we arrived in Salzburg but we enjoyed a lovely walk along the river and through the old town.
The little streets in the old town were so pretty
Nice tasty pasta and pizza and a sneaky tipple
After a bit more exploring we headed back for the train
We arrived back in Zell am See to lots of fresh snow right down the the village level it was a winter wonderland
This was the view from our balcony
The forecast was looking good for Thur and Fri and it held true to it's word.
We woke to a "bluebird" sky for our first day on the mountain.
We headed up to the Glocknerwiese slopes for some nice gentle blue and reds to get the ski legs back
The views were amazing when we skied back down towards the valley
We headed back up for lunch to the Areitbahn Panorama restaurant for lunch and sat on the outdoor terrace. The view was fantastic
We enjoyed a lovely caesar salad and some refreshments. The food and service was first class.
Was lovely to bump in Marc from https://www.facebook.com/ImagesAroundAustria/ who I had followed ahead of our trip to get some insider tips on the resort
We enjoyed a few more ski runs after lunch and then headed back down for some apres ski @ Villa Crazy Daisy https://www.crazy-daisy.at/
A lovely friendly bar right near the lake with cheap drinks and friendly staff
We walked back to our hotel along the lake side
After our evening meal we headed out with a group from our hotel to have a go at curling by the lake
It was great fun followed by a Gluhwein in the clubhouse
On Friday we woke to another beautiful sunny day and decided to head over to the glacier at Kaprun. We jumped on the ski bus right outside the ski hire shop where we stored our ski's each day.
We took 2 cable cars before getting on the new 3K K-onnection up the glacier. The views were fantastic
Panoramic views all around the cable car
We loved the skiing on the glacier loads of interconnecting chairlifts and cable cars and great pistes with perfect snow following the 3 days of storms.
We had lunch outside the alpincenter in the sunshine
After lunch we did some more runs on the glacier
before heading down to the Maiskogel mountain below the 3K K-onnection
We stopped half way down for a drink at the umbrella bar
Before heading back to Zell we skiied down to the village of Kaprun and jumped back on the cable car and skied the Maiskogel mountain a couple more times.
We hopped on the bus in the village with ease and were soon on our way back to Zell am See.
Kaprun looked lovely and I think we would stay there in the future too
On the way back to the hotel we stopped at https://www.facebook.com/Insider.Bar/ for a well deserved drink to toast a couple of days of fab skiing.
Not the full on ski trip we had planned was just unfortunate about my husbands back, the weather and a little sickness bug that I picked up but other than that we made the most of it.
