Kielder - Northumberland

Northern hospitality at it's best

We stayed at http://www.thepheasantinn.com/ again and it was lovely.  The welcome from all the staff is friendly and the food is first class.  Especially the lamb and the sticky toffee pudding.

The Pheasant Inn is located in a small village called Stannersburn.  There is a little stream running through the grounds and it's so peaceful just sitting having a drink when you arrive.

We were lucky enough to be allocated the new renovated 2 bedroom cottage for this stay as there were 4 of us staying for 2 nights.  The cottage is finished to a very high standard and will be lovely in the winter with the log burner on.

We actually discovered on this trip that 31 years ago in 1985 a German Tornado jet crashed just outside the village of Stannerburn.  There is a memorial plaque in the grounds of the Pheasant Inn

You can read more about the crash here

On our way to Kielder we always like to stop and have a wander around Corbridge

We had a lovely coffee in Massey's cafe http://www.masseystearoom.co.uk/index.html

The Black Bull is always a good option for lunch. There is nice little beer garden out the back and the food and service is always nice

On the Sunday of our stay we decided to have a walk near Kielder.  We chose walk E off the trail guide.  It's about a 5 min drive to the dam wall from the Pheasant.

The walk starts at Leaplish waterside park and follows the edge of Kielder reservoir before heading up into the Lewisburn inlet and over the curved suspension bridge

You can either catch the ferry back to leaplish or re trace your steps.  We just re traced our steps and walked just short of 10k in total.

Once again we had a lovely stay in Northumberland and look forward to returning next year to bike the 26 miles round Kielder.
